Salamander beta 1 release. You can still use the previous mras.
-All sound sources have been implemented.
-The screen may shake up and down on some TV sets. This will be fixed in beta 2.
-I didn't replace the sprite engine. REing the K005295 takes time, so I'll update this after the full release.

Possibilities for CV1k

A lot of people are wondering if the CV1k will move on the MiSTer, and I'll do a little research on the specs of that board and tell you what I've concluded for now.
1. There is currently no FPGA platform that can run it.
2. It might be possible on a MiSTer with dual SDRAM at >133MHz.
3. The Pocket doesn't have enough VRAM capacity.
- The biggest problem is the SH3. The j-core SH2 is nice, but it's written in VHDL(we can accelerate Verilog simulation by using Verilator), and I'm not sure it can reliably run at 103MHz on the worst Cyclone V silicon. I'll have to make a SH3 core with care. The manual is about 800 pages long. I don't have to read it all, but it's going to take me a long time if I make it myself.
- The game program on the CV1k is stored on NAND flash with 70ns access time, and the main RAM is an SDRAM(32-bit) at 50MHz. MiSTer DDR3's Latency is unpredictable, but fortunately, we can send a wait signal to the CPU. Even if I were to store this on DDR3, the cache miss penalty shouldn't be too bad if I implement a 2-way L2 I-Cache.
- Currently I don't know the bandwidth of the MP2 sound player, but it should be able to fit on DDR3.
- The biggest bandwidth Moloch on the CV1k is the DDR VRAM. The original board used 32-bit DDR RAM clocked at 74 MHz. To get a similar bandwidth with the dual SDRAM, we would need to run it at >148 MHz. However, these numbers are not "absolute". Unlike old PCBs like the Darius II, the blitter can send wait instructions to the main CPU. By lowering the VRAM clock, the CPU will wait longer for the blitter command to be done. A veteran shmup player will notice this in certain scenes, but I don't think it'll be terrible.

This is a pretty challenging system for a consumer-level FPGA platform, even if it wasn't state-of-the-art at the time. It's a good thing the CPU isn't an OoE superscalar RISC. But still, MMU will be tricky to implement. I've made CPUs a couple of times and the task itself isn't that hard. An SH “core” that just executes instructions without interrupts, exceptions, or bi-endian consideration would be easy to make, but it would take more time to decorate around it with peripherals.

[MiSTer]

; Set to 1 for automatic HDMI VSync rate adjust to match original VSync.
; Set to 2 for low latency mode (single buffer).
; This option makes video butter smooth like on original emulated system.
; Adjusting is done by changing pixel clock. Not every display supports variable pixel clock.
; For proper adjusting and to reduce possible out of range pixel clock, use 60Hz HDMI video
; modes as a base even for 50Hz systems.

; These parameters are valid only when vsync_adjust is non-zero.
refresh_min=0

; These parameters have the same format as video_mode.
; You need to supply both PAL and NTSC modes if you want vsync_adjust to switch between
; predefined modes as a base. This will reduce the range of pixel clock.

; Hue can be set to 0 - 360, observing the HSL color model.
; Each component of video_gain_offset can be set to any value between -2 and 2.
; The order is "gain,offset" repeated three times to cover RGB.

; Example 2, Slightly desaturated, warm display:

; in clipping in bright parts of the image.

; Permanently assign specific controller to specific player.
; Normally you don't need to use this option, but if you use arcade cabinet with integrated controllers then
; you may want to use it for specific player regardless which controller is used first.
; To assign it, you need to provide unique part of this controller ID.
; In USB debug log you may see list of input devices right after core has been loaded.
; For example:
;
; opened 0( 0): /dev/input/event8 (1915:0040) 0 "7c:10:c9:15:22:33/df:47:3a:12:44:55" "Flydigi APEX2"
; ...
; opened 7( 7): /dev/input/event3 (1997:2535) 0 "usb-ffb40000.usb-1.6/input0" " mini keyboard"
; opened 9( 9): /dev/input/event0 (046d:4024) 0 "usb-ffb40000.usb-1.2/input2:1/4024-19-a2-39-0a" "Logitech K400"
;
; following part is unique identifier in system ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
; So you need to provide part of this string identifying exactly this device. Don't include inputX part as it may change after reboot.
; Wireless devices usually have format MAC/MAC, wired devices use usb-... format.
;
; Example of such unique part of strings:
;
;player_1_controller=usb-1.2/ ;include / at the end so it won't match with something like usb-1.2.3
;player_2_controller=7c:10:c9:15:22:33/df:47:3a:12:44:55
