CAPCOM® ANNOUNCES SUPPORT FOR THE EVO 2006 WORLD FINALS
Following a successful partnership with EVO in executing last month’s Street Fighter® tournaments at Comic-Con in San Diego, Capcom is proud to announce their support of the EVO 2006 World Finals, the world’s largest open fighting game tournament. This three day event determines the world champions in the EVO tournament games and will be hosted at the Red Rock Casino Resort & Spa in Las Vegas, Nevada from August 18-20. Capcom will contribute prizing for the action-packed competition whose main battles feature four popular Capcom fighting titles.
The EVO Championship Series represents the largest and longest- running competitive fighting game tournaments in the world. The multi-day, hardcore gaming festival brings together the best of the best from around the world in a dazzling exhibition of skill and fun, as players and fans gather to honor the competitive spirit in an open format and crown a champion of today’s hottest fighting and action games. More than 2,000 competitors from more than 30 different countries (with sizable contingents from Japan, Korea, Taiwan, China, Canada, Puerto Rico, the U.K., France, Germany and Turkey) are expected to compete for upwards of $80,000 in cash across eight different games. Several thousand spectators will also be on hand to cheer on the combatants.
Half of the competitions at the EVO Finals are based on popular Capcom fighting titles: Hyper Street Fighter® II (a special version of Street Fighter® II found only on the Street Fighter® Anniversary Collection), Marvel® vs. Capcom® 2, Street Fighter® III: 3rd Strike and Capcom vs. SNK™ 2. Historically, the Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike tournament has boasted the fiercest competition among all the games and as such, Capcom will contribute an additional $1,000 to that game’s grand prize. In addition, hundreds of other Street Fighter related prizes from Capcom will be awarded over the course of the three day event to show appreciation and support for the Street Fighter community.
The EVO Finals begin at 9:00am on Friday, August 18th with the spectacular final battles hitting on Sunday, August 20th. Hopeful contestants can still sign up for “lastminute” registration on-site beginning at 8pm on Thursday, August 17th or can register online at
