Sega arbeitet an Alien Syndrome (Wii/PSP)

12.12.06 - Sega gibt die Entwicklung von Alien Syndrome für Wii und PSP bekannt, das bei Totally Games entsteht. Es handelt sich um ein Action-RPG in einem Science Fiction-Universum, das eine Einzelspielerkampagne und einen kooperativen Mehrspieler-Modus für bis zu vier Teilnehmer besitzt.

Das Spiel basiert auf der klassischen Sega-Marke Alien Syndrome. Die Heldin ist Aileen Harding, die sich durch Raumschiffe und bizarre außerirdische Planeten kämpft: Sie tritt gegen mehr als einhundert verschiedene Aliens und riesige Endbosse an.

Vor dem Start kann man für Aileen verschiedene Spezialfähigkeiten und Talente auswählen. Sie trägt unterschiedliche Rüstungen, benutzt 20 Nahkampf- und Distanzwaffen (z.B. Flammenwerfer, Laser, Nanobot-Schwärme, Brand-Granaten, uvm.). Im Spielverlauf verbessern sich ihre Statistiken, wodurch sich neue Fähigkeiten freischalten.

Auf Wii sollen die Bewegungen der Wiiremote im Kampf gegen die Feinde eingesetzt werden. Außerdem sollen sich neue Gegenstände entwerfen und bestehende verbessern lassen. Auch das Hacken von Computersystemen ist möglich.

Auf PSP können sich bis zu vier Freunde kooperativ über Wi-Fi durch die Levels kämpfen. Dazu stehen mehrere Mehrspieler-Modi zur Verfügung. Release: Sommer 2007 (USA)

I mailed Michael Meyers (aucun rapport ni avec Sid, ni avec Michael), SNK's pr guy, to confirm whether the new Card Fighters will see a stateside release, as I've been getting a lot of questions about it. Answer is - yes - probably first quarter 2007, and the price will be $29.99. So now you know! Unfortunately there's no overworld this time, but I remain hopeful. I'd love to see a re-release of the original two for the DS as well!..

They've even got some ridiculously short 'probably taken with a cellphone' videos for you to watch! Seven seconds of pure enjoyment. The cabinet takes a picture of the player for high scores, which is neat, and it boasts 'hit songs' - but no mention of what those might be. It's apparently "an instant hit with dance and drum players," so if you're part of the critical "dance player" market, looks like this is the game for you. In seriousness, the music seems rather passable. The game was developed by our old pals at International Game Systems, so might be worth a look. For those who've forgotten, IGS is Taiwan's answer to SNK, and most recently made Spectral Vs Generations, and....Fearless Pinocchio. Check here for some images of that.

News: House of the Dead 4 270 degree cab

Speaking of Sega and Zombies, my favorite testament to the arcade industry's death rattle - CoinOp Today - has posted news of a House of the Dead 4 Special theatre cabinet which is to be released in North America. The gigantic cab, which you probably won't be able to find anywhere near you because that's just the way the universe works, boasts a 270 degree pivot seat that moves as you face the action.

From the release: "Surround sound, air blasts and a vibrating seat add to the hellish experience." Air blasts. That is awesome. I haven't seen that in an arcade game since Irritating Maze from Saurus, perhaps? Anyway, the official flyers may be absolutely riddled with typos and grammar errors (go Sega Amusements! They also distribute games by a company called SEGAS, apparently), but the game looks really nice, running on Lindberg as it does, and I'd love to check out this cabinet once. If you come across one, do send me an email!

American Alpha Inc. has released Percussion Master, a rather limp-wrist Taiko no Tatsujin clone with psuedo anime characters wandering around in it. They've even got some ridiculously short 'probably taken with a cellphone' videos for you to watch! Seven seconds of pure enjoyment. The cabinet takes a picture of the player for high scores, which is neat, and it boasts 'hit songs' - but no mention of what those might be. It's apparently "an instant hit with dance and drum players," so if you're part of the critical "dance player" market, looks like this is the game for you. In seriousness, the music seems rather passable. The game was developed by our old pals at International Game Systems, so might be worth a look. Ikeda and co. must have had a great year, because they've decided to rent the 5th floor of Akihabara's Hirose Entertainment Yard (also known as HEY arcade) from the 28th to the 30th of this month, and throw a party of sorts. This is awesome news -- never mind the fact I had no idea HEY had a fifth floor, and no clue how you can get there.
It seems you'll be able to play a "special arrange version" of Do Donpachi, which may or may not be the same as the legendary DDP Campaign Edtion (of which only a single board was ever made), and take part in a Mushihime-sama Futari 1.5 score competition, the winner of which will win a PCB and other swag. They will also be peddling rare merchandise, including posters and reprints of some of their more popular OSTs. If you are a shooter fan and in Tokyo around that time do attend and let me know how it went. Because sadly I won't be able to make it.

Sega of America today announced the ship date of Virtua Fighter 5 will be February 20, 2007 in North America. Sega Europe has confirmed that Virtua Fighter 5 will be an official launch title for the PlayStation 3 when it releases in 2007. Sega revealed new details for the PS3 port of the arcade fighting game Virtua Fighter 5:

The PS3 version is based on "version B" of the arcade game
The game does not have online functions
The video processor in the Lindbergh Arcade hardware is the same as the PS3, so there were no problems in porting the same graphics over to PS3
However, the arcade system uses Pentium 4 processor, so they could not use the same technology in PS3's cell processor; and besides that, PS3 has less memory than the arcade system.
Thanks to the PS3 hard drive, develops can use it as data buffers
Developers can pack everything that they wanted in the BluRay disc and there were no restrictions
The reason the game is ported over to PS3 because its video processor is more compatible with the Lindbergh than the Xbox 360
The team does not plan to concentrate only on PS3, they also consider to make some software for Xbox 360
