A lot of gameplay aspects were changed to make the game less
frustrating. While the difficulty is still the same, read below what
Team Ninja changed up for the second go-around.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
+++ GAMEPLAY ASPECTS +++
--BLOOD AND GORE
XBOX 360 VERSION: Ninja Gaiden 2 was just SOAKED in buckets and buckets
of blood. Everything from the slicing of limbs to decapitations made the
first game look like a PG-13 movie.
PS3 VERSION: For Sigma II, Team Ninja took away nearly 90% of all the
blood splatter and the guts and gore. Most of Ryu's Obliteration
techniques leave a purple-mist glow when enemies are killed. Even
cutscenes that involved bloody sword slicing have been toned down to
look as if Ryu is just smacking the enemy with a whiffle ball bat.
--PROJECTILES
XBOX 360 VERSION: For Ninja Gaiden 2, Ryu had access to a series of
projectiles that he could double-charge and fling at enemies for more
damage. All of the projectiles like the Windmill Shuriken, Incendiary
Shuriken, and the Gatling Gun appeared in the game.
PS3 VERSION: In Sigma II, Ryu has INFINITE projectiles! The only problem
is that he only has TWO of them. The Windmill Shuriken, Incendiary
Shurikens, and the Gatling Gun were deleted from the game! But those
deletions bring forth a new projectile weapon called the Howling Cannon,
which fires cannonballs!
--THE AIM AND TARGET RETICLE
XBOX 360 VERSION: In Ninja Gaiden 2, when Ryu equipped the Fiend's Bane
Bow, he could manually aim and target enemies as well as close-in on far
away enemies. The only thing was that he couldn't move while aiming.
Also, Ryu could only equip 30 arrows at a time, hence, he would need to
restock from a dead body.
PS3 VERSION: For Sigma II, you have to press one button to AIM the Bow
(it brings up a reticle) and then press another Button to fling arrows.
When Ryu is aiming the bow or cannon, he can also move in any direction.
--WEAPONS
PS3 VERSION: For Sigma II, Team Ninja added ONE more weapon into the mix
called the Enma Fang. The 360 version lacked any big and stronger
weapons (no, the Scythe doesn't count) hence, some battles were just too
difficult to comprehend. But the return of the big weapon has made
battles a lot more fun and definitely easier than before.
--MURAMASA STATUE
XBOX 360 VERSION: For Ninja Gaiden 2, Ryu could immediately start
upgrading his weapons and buying lots of Health items from Muramasa in
Chapter 1. Health Enhancement items were also sold at Muramasa's.
PS3 VERSION: In Sigma II, Muramasa has TWO separate statues, a gold and
blue statue. At the Blue Statues, Ryu receives FREE weapons upgrades
from Muramasa, so there's no need to waste any cash. Also, Muramasa only
sells heath items! No more Lives of the Thousand Gods, Jewel Of The
Demon Seal, or Life Of The Gods are sold by him.
--TEST OF VALOR
XBOX 360 VERSION: From Chapter 3 and on, Ryu would run into large
glowing portals in various areas. These portals would lead to a large
fiendish arena where he would be bombarded by various mixed enemies.
Once he defeated the lot of enemies, he would receive a prize like a
Health Enhancement item!
PS3 VERSION: For Sigma II, the Test Of Valor has been completely deleted
from the game. All the Test of Valor locations are still intact from the
360 version, but there is no portal.
--DOORWAYS
XBOX 360 VERSION: In Ninja Gaiden 2, anytime Ryu would reach a closed
door or gate, all you had to do was press the INTERACT button and he
would kick the door open. No biggie, right?
PS3 VERSION: For Sigma II, Ryu can no longer open doors. In order for
him to open a doorway, Ryu would need to open a chest or defeat enemies
and the door would open automatically for him. In some chapters, when
Ryu approaches a door, it will manually open itself. WEIRD, isn't it?
--KEY ITEMS
XBOX 360 VERSION: For Ninja Gaiden 2, Ryu needed to collect various Key
Items in order to open doors and gates throughout the game.
PS3 VERSION: In Sigma II, all of the Key Items from the 360 version were
deleted COMPLETELY. All of the inaccessible areas in the game that
required a Key Item only require Ryu to defeat a set of enemies in order
for the door to be opened.
--MAPS
XBOX 360 VERSION: For Ninja Gaiden 2, there was a separate button to
view the Map for the area. There was ZERO purpose for the map because it
didn't tell you where to go next.
PS3 VERSION: In Sigma II, the Map button has been slightly omitted. When
you press and hold the Re-Center Button, the camera will swing behind
Ryu to indicate where to go for the next objective.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
+++ ADDITIONAL AND DELETED ENEMIES +++
--ADDITIONAL ENEMIES AND BOSSES (PS3 VERSION ONLY)
SHADOW FIENDS
BLACK VAN GELF
BIG BUDDHA
STATUE OF LIBERTY
TENGU
OBABA
MARBUS
--ENEMY AND BOSS OMISSIONS AND DELETIONS (XBOX 360 VERSION)
The following enemies and bosses below are only found in Ninja Gaiden 2
on the Xbox 360!
THE GIANT WORM BOSS
There is a boss battle in the "Heart Of Darkness" chapter that took
place in mid-chapter. When Ryu jumps down the cavern, he lands into a
Limestone cavern with a giant Worm boss. This area and this super-
annoying boss have been completely deleted in Sigma II.
GIANT WHITE DRAGONS
Also in the "Heart Of Darkness" chapter, the boss at the end of the
chapter was two white dragons that threw fireballs and lasers at you.
These two bosses were omitted in the PS3 version. The white dragon still
appears in the PS3 version but only as an OPTIONAL boss.
RED BABY DRAGON
In the "Quickening Devastation" chapter, there was an enemy that only
appeared once after the Armadillo battle and it was sort of a red-
colored baby dragon. Defeating it was a tad bit frustrating but it was
the only time in the game that it showed up. This enemy has been deleted
in the PS3 version.
THE WATER GAJA
The Gaja enemies were capable of attacking Ryu from the water. For the
PS3 version, the Gaja are no longer found in the water, so all of the
water areas from the 360 versions that contained these enemies have been
completely omitted (although the Gaja still exist in the game).
EXPLODING JELLY FISH
These annoying suckers appeared in areas of the game that had bodies of
water, mainly, the "Aqua Capital", "Heart Of Darkness", and "Quickening
Devastation" chapters. If Ryu touched them while running on the water,
they would explode (hence their name). These enemies have been deleted
in the PS3 version.
WATER SENTRY ROBOT
In the "Heart Of Darkness" chapter, there was a Water Sentry enemy that
showed up only once. In the area where all the rocket soldiers are
camping out, the Sentry would appear after the water gateway opened up.
This enemy has been deleted in the PS3 version.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
+++ GRAPHICS UPDATE +++
--CHAPTER 2 GENSHIN BATTLE
In the 360 version, the arena that Ryu had to battle Genshin was
literally SO small. Half the room was consumed in fire, hence, a smaller
area to fight. For the PS3 version, the room was been widened into a
bigger arena with enough room for evasion.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
+++ CHAPTER ADDITIONS/DELETIONS/OMISSIONS +++
--CHAPTER 2 OMISSION
In Sigma II, the mission begins at Hayabusa Village during the daytime.
In the 360 version, the mission takes place at night.
--CHAPTER 2 DELETION
In Hayabusa Village, there was a large candle shrine just near the
Castle Gate entrance. This was where Ryu obtained the ROD OF TRIALS item
to use for the Test Of Valor. In the PS3 version, the shrine is replaced
with a large cherry blossom tree.
--CHAPTER 2 DELETION
Inside Hayabusa Castle, there was a Golden Dragon puzzle that Ryu had to
solve involving obtaining the Ultramarine and Vermilion Jewels in order
to open a new path to the roof. For the PS3 version, the puzzle is
already solved and all Ryu has to do is defeat a bunch of enemies.
--CHAPTER 3 OMISSION
In the first tunnel area of the sewers (where Ryu encounters the
surprise Van Gelf), there was a separate tunnel on the left side that
contained a Crystal Skull sitting by itself on a platform. You had to
use the TECHNIQUE OF SHADOWLESS FOOTSTEPS to reach it. This area does
not exist in the PS3 version and the Crystal Skull was relocated to a
different area of the sewers.
--CHAPTER 3 OMISSION
In the sewer area, there is an area with large ventilation fans. After
destroying the fans, there was an area of the sewer behind it that
contained a few more chests of goodies. This area has been sealed off in
the PS3 version.
--CHAPTER 11 DELETIONS
In the Hayabusa Village, there is a house that required the "Shrine-
Maiden's Key", which was found in the Hayabusa Graveyard. Inside the
house was the Windmill Shuriken item. Since there are NO Key Items in
Sigma II, the house remains locked for the whole game.
--CHAPTER 14 ADDITIONS (PS3 VERSION)
In the "Tempered Gravestone" chapter of the PS3 version, Ryu encounters
the Tengu bosses from Momiji's chapter. He also encounters one more
Tengu boss at the Ninja Graveyard area of the chapter. In the 360
version, Ryu just encounters wave after wave of Ninjas in these areas.
--CHAPTER 15 OMISSIONS (PS3 VERSIONS)
In the "Quickening Devastation" chapter of the PS3 version, the first
boss Ryu encounters is Marbus. In the 360 version, Ryu encounters TWO
Armadillo bosses in that area.
--CHAPTER 17 DELETIONS
In the "Poisoned Blood" chapter, there is a section of the game before
facing off against Dagra Dai where Ryu traverses a green pathway filled
with Van Gelf enemies. In the PS3 version, this path has been deleted.
That's all the changes I've found so far! If there is something big that
I missed, e-mail and tell me what it is and I'll post your findings here
with credit.
